Somewhere tonight homeless Contra Costa County residents will be warm and dry thanks to the generosity of Meher Schools families. Our school community donated enough sleeping bags, tarps, blankets, socks, and meal bars to fill 45 emergency cold-weather backpacks in our drive last month for the White Pony Express Cold Weather Care program. Last week fourth and fifth graders sorted through the mountain of donated items and assembled the backpacks.
“These are items our unhoused neighbors need and have specifically requested,” said WPE Executive Director (and Meher School mom) Eve Birge. “The students put so much loving energy into this drive, I know the backpacks will carry their warmth and cheer!”
Leftover items were given to WPE to be added with donations from other sources to create additional backpacks.
